The Niyamas
Advance your yogic practice and take it off the mat.
The physical side of yoga is just one part or branch of the practice or 8 limbs of yoga. These courses are designed to support you to deepen self-awareness and practice yoga ‘off the mat.’
In this course we learn about the ancient Yogic ethical guidelines; the niyamas, which originate from the ancient Indian philosophical text, 'The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali'.
The five niyamas ask us to embrace cleanliness and contentment, to purify ourselves through heat, to continually study and observe our habits, and to surrender to something greater than ourselves.
The niyamas offer us ways to build self-discipline and gain self-awareness through self-observation. Following the niyamas can help you transform negative energy and cultivate a deep, abiding sense of peace in your life.
In this course you will gain an understanding of each niyama. Each week you’ll hear a lecture on one of the niyamas with question and discussion time so you can reflect on the layers and the subtle ways things can show up in our lives. You’ll then be guided through a physical practice that supports your body to open up physically, integrate the understanding of the niyama and deepen your self awareness.
Once you gain an understanding of the Niyamas and their practical application, you’ll have a framework to reference and reflect on consumption, your habitual mindset is, and reframing self discipline as an act of self-love.
